Spending on IT services worldwide rose by 11 per cent in 2007, despite adverse economic conditions for part of the year, a new report claims.
Research by analyst Gartner suggests that global IT spending rose by 11 per cent last year to £384 million.
Spending on IT services also appears to have remained strong during the first quarter of 2008, defying the credit crunch and economic slowdown.
Kathryn Hale, research vice-president at Gartner said: "This strong growth, combined with strong first quarter results for market leaders, runs counter to the gloomy and widespread economic concerns arising in the United States."
The international market for outsourcing is also performing strongly and service providers are advised to focus on the delivery of services that will "deliver visible return in 2008".
IDC recently predicted that the credit crunch will affect IT spending around the world, though the Gartner report suggests that it has yet to be adversely affected by economic conditions.
